Theatrical Monologue Competition in Memory of Kostis Kolotas
4th Competition
In May 2017, ETHAL announced the "4th One-Act Play Competition in Memory of Kostis Kolotas," with an initial deadline for submission on January 31, 2018. Due to the great interest shown in the competition, the submission deadline was extended to March 30, 2018.
The five-member jury specially convened for this purpose consisted of Titos Kolotas (journalist, researcher, and representative of the Kolotas family), Kristis Harakis (writer, researcher, and President of the Literary Society "Vasilis Michaelides"), Katerina Voskaridou (theatre scholar and General Secretary of ETHAL's Board of Directors), Doros Iroas (member of ETHAL's Artistic Committee), and Pantelis Makis (member of ETHAL's Board of Directors).
Out of the 67 works submitted, the committee decided to award two distinctions:
- 1st Prize: Elena Sofokleous for the work "Fair and Sustainable"
- 2nd Prize: Maria Christofina for the work "Uncle Harry"
The awards ceremony was scheduled for the fall of 2019, but internal changes and the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic led to its cancellation.
The work "Fair and Sustainable," which depicts the evolution of a refugee family over three different time periods (1975, 1986, 2003), is scheduled to be presented as a staged theatrical reading in July 2024, as part of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Invasion.
