Theatrical Monologue Competition in Memory of Kostis Kolotas
1st Competition
The announcement of the "1st One-Act Play Competition in Memory of Kostis Kolotas" was made on the first anniversary of his death, in December 2012. The participation and interest shown by young writers exceeded all expectations. Twenty works were submitted from Cyprus, Greece, and the United Kingdom.
The jury of the 1st Competition consisted of Vassos Venizelos (poet and educator), Titos Kolotas (researcher and journalist), and Doros Iroas (representative of ETHAL's Board of Directors), who decided to award the following prizes:
- 1st Prize: Dimitris Oikonomou for the work "Hour of Need"
- 2nd Prize: Anna Mavroleon for her work "History did not Love us…. Kyriakos"
- 3rd Prize: Jointly to Haris Vekris for the work "Cultural Communication" and Ilektra Georgiadi for her work "The Road to the Windmill"
On April 19 and 20, 2013, two of the four awarded works were presented in the form of a theatrical reading: Anna Mavroleon's "History did not Love us…. Kyriakos" directed by Loukas Zikos with Eleana Papadopoulou and Loukas Zikos, and Haris Vekris' "Cultural Communication" directed by Christos Georgiou.
The event was attended by the awarded playwrights Anna Mavroleon and Haris Vekris. Finally, a special mention was given to the work "Shades" by author Toni Iakovidis.
