November 23, 24, 30, and December 1, 2013 – Readings of Cypriot Authors’ Plays
Fourteen New Cypriot Plays
As part of the PLAY program

The first installment of the PLAY Program reaches its culmination this month. The theatre community of Cyprus unites to present staged readings of fourteen new plays by Cypriot authors, as part of the PLAY program, organized by the Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute and the Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOK).

The staged readings will take place at the New Stage (THOK Theatre) on November 23, 24, 30, and December 1, 2013, during morning and afternoon sessions.

Theatre professionals and groups enthusiastically responded to the invitation by the CCOITI and THOK to participate voluntarily in this effort to support Cypriot works. They joined forces, taking on the task of presenting one of the selected works in a staged reading format.

The goal of these staged readings is to celebrate Cypriot drama, offering theatre professionals and the general public the opportunity for a first encounter with the works of PLAY. More importantly, the aim is for as many theatre groups as possible to select and stage Cypriot works during 2014.

The readings will feature works by the following authors: Yiannis Agisilaou, Sofocles Vergou, Antonis Georgiou, Charalambos Giannou, Eleni Kosma and Korina Kontaxaki, Kostas Mannouris, Anna Marangou, Andreas Nicolaidis, Marios Nicolaou, Melina Papageorgiou, Maria Pavlou, Despina Pyrketti, Antis Roditis, and Kyriakos Spartiatis.

A team of theatre writing consultants, including Magdalena Zira, Maria Mannaridou-Karsera, Lea Maleni, Alexia Papalazarou, Antonis Solomou, and Aemilios Charalambides, worked on selecting and editing the works alongside the authors.

The theatre groups/directors participating in the readings include Theatre Ena (Andreas Araouzos), ETHAL (Minas Tikilis, Loukas Zikos), Theatre Skala (Monika Melekki), OpenArts (Athina Kasiou), RooftopTheatre (Ellada Evangelou), Maria Mannaridou-Karsera, Diomides Koufteros, Marios Mettis, Evripidis Dikajos, Alexia Papalazarou, TheatroTranscendental, Lea Maleni, and Leandros Taliotis.
